Beware! Don’t put your laptop in the car

June 17th, 2009

Ever wonder how thieves could single out vehicles for laptops stored inside? :?: The mystery has been resolved with the arrest of two Indonesian men the other days ago.

Some times ago, I was also wondering how they could detect the laptops stored inside the cars when I heard my friend’s friends were victims of the incident. Now then I know how. The police said that they found the suspects had used an inductive amplifier, an electronic device similar to a handheld metal detector and as small as a hairbrush, to “sniff” out laptops that kept in the cars (OMG, can you believe that?).

The gadget can be purchased at an electronic shop. The conventional use of the inductive amplifier is to locate breaks in hidden wires, even those buried in concrete, but now that there are some people misusing the gadget though. The typical wire detection range in a concrete wall is 10-20cm, not to say to detect laptops stored inside the cars.

It’s kind of sad to see this thing happened nowadays especially when you heard of someone around you became the victims of the crime. I’m sure they suffered a lot as people nowadays are depending so much on their laptops to complete work tasks and even studies. Sigh… I can’t imagine how they gonna cope with it during their bad-luck-days.

So, beware! Don’t put your laptop in the car when you are away. Try to keep an eye on your car when you are not in the car. The society is no longer safety nowadays. What had happened to our society now? Sigh…

yea..I’ve actually heard about this device long ago.
Compared with laptops, i am more concerned about life.
I always go shopping alone because it’s less hassle this way, but at the same time I am putting myself at a risk as I need to walk to parking lot alone. Haha! I always wonder what our society has turned into… But I guess there’s so little that we can do… Very disappointing.

    - cHiEn -: Huh? But why? Shopping with friends is kinda fun and enjoyable too. At least you don’t have to walk to parking lot alone anymore. LOL! Yaya… it’s kinda disappointing to see our society has turned into this way – really unsafety. So, I think you better ask a friend or two to accompany you next time you go shopping. Always be alert to the surrounding and take good care of yourself ya!

ipohchai: Yeah! I agreed with you. That’s why nowadays I always keep my laptop beside me rather than put it in my car. Haha!
